ULI Idaho – Young Leaders Group – CEO Series with Kent Hanway
Join the YLG for another in their series of discussions with leaders in the development community.
CSHQA President Kent Hanway grew up building things: A fort in the corner of the backyard, a small-scale model car in his bedroom. He would sketch out his ideas and change them as he moved along (with a few cartoons thrown in for good measure). His two loves — building and drawing — came together when a teacher introduced him to drafting. The technical aspects of drafting, as well as the math involved, hooked him. From there, he started designing, drawing, and building even more: dressers, waterbeds, tables, chairs, cabins. Architecture seemed like the natural way to make his interests into a career.
Under Kent’s leadership, CSHQA has built upon its reputation for quality, customer service, innovative design, responsiveness, excellent construction documents, and meaningful relationships. The apex of his philosophy is CSHQA’s own building: It reset the firm’s perception in the community and made a major design statement, all while pushing the envelope on environmentally friendly design and state-of-the-art technology. The building has elevated CSHQA’s standing and its reputation for design.
Kent rarely takes a break from building. He and his wife are licensed residential contractors who always have a project under construction, and they perform most of the hands-on work themselves. He’s also an explorer: A scuba diver, a motorcyclist, a traveler, and a learner.
