Urban Land Institute of Idaho Awards Creative Placemaking Grant

(Boise, March 14, 2018) ULI Idaho is pleased to announce the award of a Creative Placemaking Grant to LED, Boise as part of the Vista Healthy Corridor project.

ULI Idaho, a district council of the ULI, received funding from the Urban Land Institute and Kresge Foundation to support creative placemaking projects along commercial corridors. Creative placemaking describes a comprehensive community development approach that intentionally embeds arts, culture, and community-engaged design into strategies to revitalize and stabilize communities. ULI Idaho is the recipient of a grant for the project, “Activate Vista Corridor Sidewalks”.  This grant follows on the work of a previous ULI Healthy Vista Avenue Corridor Project. That study identified the potential for creative placemaking in improving social and physical health through cultivating neighborhood identity and engagement. LED was founded by husband-and-wife duo Lauren Edson and Andrew Stensaas in January of 2015. Lauren, a choreographer/dancer, and Andrew, a musician/composer, had a prior successful collaboration: “Shatter on the Rocks or Cover Your Ears”, which premiered at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, Idaho on September 28th, 2013. Fresh off the birth of their first child, the duo was looking to dedicate themselves to their artistic collaboration full time. Keeping in mind their ambitions to create cinematic theatrical experiences, Lauren and Andrew brought on board filmmaker Kyle Morck to work alongside them on creating their production’s narratives.
