    The Urban Land Institute's Emerging Trends in Real Estate® is an annual series of trends and forecast publications that reflect the views of leading real estate executives.

    Emerging Trends in Real Estate® provides an outlook on real estate investment and development trends, real estate finance and capital markets, property sectors, metropolitan areas, and other real estate issues. The report and discussion will: 

    Elaborate on trends in the capital markets, including sources and flows of equity and debt capital.
    Indicate which property sectors offer the best opportunities.
    Explain how the economy and concerns about credit issues are affecting real estate.
    Describes the impact of social and political trends on real estate.
    Explains how locational preferences are changing.

    Eric Ladd

Eric co-founded Outlaw Real Estate Partners (OREP), a real estate investment, development and services company founded to thoughtfully create unique places that accommodate the exceptional growth occurring in Bozeman and southwest Montana. OREP is now one of the largest developers in the region with a variety of ongoing construction and development projects and planned communities spanning residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Eric’s passion for wilderness, rivers and guiding began at the age of 15 and never subsided. Turning his passion into a business, Eric launched Boundary Expeditions in 2016. With his team of professional river guides, they operate exclusive, multi-day river rafting trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. He has completed expeditions that include the first descent of the Salween River in Tibet and a rare high-water descent of the Yangtze River in China. Eric and his wife, Dr. Kaley Burns, live in Big Sky and have a strong passion for organizations that focus on the preservation of land, rivers, wildlife and social action. Eric is also involved in a non-profit group that supports orphans in Nepal, is a member of Big Sky Search and Rescue, and a board member for the Gallatin River Task Force. Outlaw Partners also launched the social impact brand Hey Bear to educate and raise awareness for bear safety.     Randy Rhoads

    Cushing Terrell

    Randy Rhoads is a recognized national expert on affordable housing with more than 30 years experience in the design of residential, commercial/retail, educational, and governmental/institutional projects. He has managed multiple teams of professionals simultaneously throughout the US develop various models of housing that are affordable, attainable and/or combinations of market rate units. Randy has developed more than 6,000 affordable housing units in 13 cities totaling more than $1 Billion in construction. Randy is an expert at alternative financing, PPP approach to development and fitting square pegs in round holes. Prior to joining Cushing Terrell, Randy worked for one of the nation’s top 50 for-profit affordable housing developers for over 17 years. Randy has held lead design and project management positions at a number of San Diego and St. Louis architecture and development firms and is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University and is a Registered Architect in the State of California

    Molly McCabe

    Molly McCabe, CEO & Founder, HaydenTanner Co-Founder, The Lotus Campaign, A veteran of the Real Estate Industry, Molly describes herself as a Scout, MapMaker and BridgeBuilder. When she's not raising capital or working on an development project you can find her hanging out with her Social Media Team (aka, her dogs) someplace outside. Molly co-founded The Lotus Campaign, a non-profit firm, to bring a private sector solution to increase the availability of homes for people experiencing homelessness by engaging the private, for-profit real estate community. (www.lotuscampaign.org) She founded HaydenTanner after spending many years in commercial real estate finance, capital markets and development. She has spent her career cultivating practical solutions and strategies to accelerate the emergence of resilient buildings and vibrant, sustainable cities. Now she works with clients to channel investment capital to optimize asset and portfolio level returns, enhance resiliency, community vibrancy and livability while meeting economic objectives. Recent work has focused on Qualified Opportunity Funds and Opportunity Zones. Molly is Chair Emeritus of the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Responsible Property Investment Council, former board member of the Center for Sustainability and Economic Prosperity and current board member of The Fresh Water Trust. She is also the author of the book: Practical Greening: The Bottom Line On Sustainable Property Development, Investment and Financing and “Driving value: Responsible and Resilient Property Investing in the New Millennium” for Institutional Real Estate Investor. She has taught at the Boston Architectural College and has lectured at Pinchot University. Previously she founded VC funded, commercial mortgage backed securities firm, Bridger Commercial Funding, ran Bank of America’s Real Estate Capital Markets group and was a commercial construction lender with Wells Fargo Bank.

    Bruce Lindsey

    Senior Technical Director, WoodWorks – Wood Products Council

    Based out of Charlotte, NC, Bruce is a 30-year veteran of the Wood Products Industry. His multi-faceted career experience has included architectural design, structural design and various roles within the engineered wood products industry including, market development, product management, distribution, consulting, and sales. He is a leading expert on mid-rise wood framed construction, mass timber implementation, and has an extensive knowledge in the application and use of Engineered Wood Products. As a Senior Technical Director for the Wood Products Council, Bruce serves as a Wood Products Industry spokesperson and educator, dedicated to growing the knowledge and use of structural wood products in non-residential and multi-family construction through a variety of forums and seminars reaching over 2,500 design professionals annually. Bruce is one of the nation’s current leading resources on the implementation and sustainability of wood products, working with design professionals, developers, general contractors, local/state agencies, academia, professional associations, and industry to promote the environmental and economic benefits of wood construction.
